Industrial controls are devices which when programmed are used to automate industrial processes. In manufacturing, an industrial control system is used to describe an integration of software and hardware with enabled network connectivity in order to support critical infrastructure in the production process.
They typically interface between sensors and electrical and or mechanical equipment. At the core of industrial control systems are Programmable Logic Controllers(PLC), other technologies include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Intelligent Electrical Devices, Control Serves Sensors, HMIs, Electrical devices i.e Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) etc.
