SUPERVISORY CONTROL and DATA ACQUISITION (SCADA) SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

SCADA Level 1 Training

Duration: 5 Days

Course Overview

SCADA has traditionally meant a window into the process of a plant and/or a method of
gathering of Data from devices in the field. Today, the focus is on integrating this processed data
into the actual business, and using it in real time.

In addition to this, today’s emphasis is on using Open Standards, such as communication protocols (e.g. IEC 104, DNP3 and TCP/IP) and “off-the-shelf” hardware and software, as well as focusing on keeping the costs down.

PLCs continue to gain in popularity. This comprehensive workshop covers the essentials of SCADA and PLC systems which are often used in close association with each other. A selection of a case studies are used to illustrate the key concepts with examples of real world working SCADA and PLC systems in the electrical and Processing industries. This training will be an excellent opportunity to significant new information and Techniques for your next SCADA/PLC project.

This training will also put emphasis on the current SCADA trends and drivers as well as the latest technologies available.

The Course is built around:
i. Understanding of a SCADA System – Types of SCADA Systems
ii. SCADA Software
iii. SCADA Graphic – Creating and assigning SCADA Graphics
iv. Launching runtime
v. Simulation of actual industrial process flow problems

OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE

This training objectively covers understanding of SCADA systems addressing best methods of implementation, latest technologies, monitoring, communication protocols as well as integration of SCADA with ERP systems. At the end of the training the participants will be able to deeply understand modern systems, troubleshoot, create and manage databases as well as linking Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) to SCADA with the aim of providing trending, diagnostic and management information such as scheduled maintenance procedures, details schematics such as expert system troubleshooting guide among others as outlined.

The workshop is aimed at those who want to be updated on the latest developments in SCADA and PLC systems and want to get SOLID design, installation and troubleshooting. You will benefit by gaining practical up-to-date information on the application of PLC and SCADA systems to the automation and process control industries. It is suitable for people who have little or no exposure to PLCs, but expected to become involved in some or all aspects of PLC and SCADA installation. The training will also put emphasis on the current SCADA trends and drivers as well as the latest technologies available. PRACTICAL SESSIONS This is a practical, hand on workshop enabling you to work through practical exercises which reinforce the concepts discussed. Current types of existing SCADA trends and drivers will be used for hands-on as topics demand.

COUSE OUTLINE

The training covers the following areas:

COURSE POINTS.

Session one: Software configurations

Communication and network configurations. Trainees get an in depth look into the network configurations for different PLC –HMI connection protocols.

Session Two: The hardware

Hardware functionality, installation and use. Trainees get to understand the hardware functionality and its functions.

Session Three: Screen Optimization

Dynamizing the screen and the objects for full optimal monitoring and control of the process.

Session Four: Alarms

Configuring alarms. Students should get to understand the function of alarms, the types of alarms and their functionality.

Session Five: Trends and logs

Logging up the data and trending the process data.

Session Six: Scripting
Session Seven: HMI Maintenance

METHODOLOGY OF TRAINING

This is a practical, hands-on training enabling you to work through practical exercises which reinforce the concepts discussed. Current types of existing SCADA trends and drivers will be used for hands-on as topics demand.
